Types of Cover Available

1. Contractors All Risks (CAR) Insurance

This is the primary cover for construction projects. It protects against destruction or damage to:

• The contract works (the project itself)

• Contractor’s plant & machinery at the site

• Materials on site

Risks covered include: Fire, burglary, floods, earthquakes, landslides, storms, subsidence, lightning strikes, and unforeseen accidental damage

Additional coverage includes:

• Removal of debris after damage

• Third-party liability for death, injury, or property damage arising from contractor’s negligence

• Testing and commissioning periods (with extensions available)

2. Contractors’ Plant & Equipment (CPM)

Covers construction plant and machinery, whether owned or hired-in, on an all-risks basis. For hired-in equipment, covers liability under the terms of hire agreements

3. Machinery Breakdown Insurance (MBI)

Provides cover for plant, machinery, and mechanical equipment:

• While at work, at rest, or during maintenance operations

• Covers unforeseen and sudden physical loss or damage requiring repair or replacement

• Supplements Fire insurance coverage for machinery

4. Erection All Risks

Protects machinery and equipment during installation:

• From the time materials are allocated to the contract

• During transit and offsite storage

• Up to completion or handover of the project

5. Boiler and Pressure Vessel Insurance

Covers insured boilers and pressure vessels against explosion and collapse. Includes damage to:

• The insured item itself (other than by fire)

• Other surrounding property of the insured

• Third-party property damage and personal injury liability

6. Electronic Equipment Insurance

Accident insurance on an all-risks basis covering sudden and unforeseen physical loss or damage to computers and electronic equipment

7. Loss of Profit / Business Interruption

Works alongside Machinery Breakdown Insurance to indemnify:

• Actual loss of gross profit sustained due to business interruption

• Standing charges such as wages and rent

• Increased cost of working (temporary equipment hire, emergency measures)

8. Performance Bond

Guarantees against lack of performance or delays in contract completion. This is separate from standard insurance and must be arranged alongside CAR cover
